A few more words for my Ohio based readership this time. These are all still taken from Bill Bryson's Made In America.
Cleveland is named after a chap called Moses Cleaveland, a Connecticut lawyer, who owned the land on which the city stands but never bothered to go there. It used to be spelt Cleaveland incidentally.
Cincinnati used to be called Fort Washington.
